If you’re reading this, you know what day it is. This week, we’re not just bringing to you another episode of LBB Open House Season 2, but we’re also letting you in on a candid conversation with Tanmay Bhat (YouTuber, Creator and Entrepreneur). For all we know, Tanmay needs no formal introduction; and this conversation is all that we hoped for and more. It’s packed with laughs and fantastic insights on content creation, the creator economy, his favourite insurgent platforms (Discord lovers, rejoice!) and more.

Here are 3 things that stood out for us in this episode.

  1. How much has content creation changed over the last 5 years

According to Tanmay, content creation has changed drastically over the last 5 years. He adds that we’re now heading towards an “always on” mode. All the platforms that are booming (Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram and Reels) play on the simple idea of letting consumers show small snippets of their day for a short span of time. The more precise it is the better! Reels start from 15 seconds, Twitter limits to 140 characters & Snapchat stories disappear in 24 hours.

Now, the way to gain glory and status is to be quick.

2. The Internet’s first principles that haven’t changed over time

All aspects of building your own online persona lead to the same destination, and that is brand building (be it offline or online). What has changed however, is our dopamine threshold. And since content is the primary source of dopamine for the Internet generation, it is different for everyone. People have their own personality and consume content accordingly, and as a brand if you’re unable to keep up with this “dopamine threshold”, you’ll die eventually.

3. Interesting ways in which creators can monetize

“There is a gap in the market”, Tanmay adds. He says that on YouTube, monetizing your brand (for creators) is relatively easier. Different tools such as memberships, streaming, super chat and more traditional ways to advertise make it easier for creators to monetize their skills on this platform. Other platforms need to pick up vis a vis creator monetisation. Something that can help creators with monetization is them specializing in certain topics, categories or formats of engagement- this in turn will help them build their fandom.
